§ How Oklahoma calculates support
Oklahoma uses the Income Shares model under Title 43 O.S. §§ 118–118I and the Child Support Guideline Schedule at § 119, based on each parent's GROSS monthly income. The base obligation from the schedule is split proportionally by income, with health insurance (reasonable if ≤5% of the obligor's gross) and work-related childcare added on top. A shared parenting adjustment applies when the noncustodial parent has at least 121 overnights per year. Deviations are allowed only in the child's best interest and cannot leave the custodial parent unable to meet basic needs. All payments route through the Centralized Support Registry.

✦ How to open or modify a case in Oklahoma
- Apply for Child Support Services through Oklahoma Child Support Services (OKDHS) online at okbenefits.org or by mailing the application to the Case Initiation Center; TANF/non-TANF Medicaid families are referred automatically.
- Establish paternity if the parents were unmarried (voluntary Acknowledgment of Paternity or DNA testing ordered by CSS or the court).
- CSS determines each parent's gross monthly income (current, prior-year average, or imputed if voluntarily unemployed/underemployed) using the best available evidence.
- Run the guidelines computation using the § 119 schedule; apply the shared parenting adjustment if the NCP has 121+ overnights.
- Obtain an order through an administrative hearing (Office of Administrative Hearings: Child Support) or a district court action, including medical support.
- Payments are made by income withholding to the Centralized Support Registry; request a review/modification on a material change (recalculation differing >20% can support modification).
◈ Illustrative examples
Scenario: Parents' combined gross monthly income is $5,000 with one child. The NCP earns $3,000 (60%) and the CP earns $2,000 (40%). The NCP has standard parenting time (below 121 overnights).
Walk-through: From the § 119 schedule, combined gross income of $5,000 with one child is $654/month. The NCP pays 60% of the base: 0.60 × $654 = $392/month, plus 60% of add-ons.
Takeaway: Oklahoma splits the schedule base proportionally by each parent's share of combined gross income.
Scenario: Same $5,000 combined income and one child. The child's health insurance is $100/month (within the 5%-of-gross reasonableness test for the NCP) and work childcare is $250/month. The NCP has 130 overnights.
Walk-through: Base $654 + $100 insurance + $250 childcare = $1,004. The NCP (60%) owes $602 before the shared parenting adjustment. Because the NCP has 121+ overnights, § 43-118E applies a reduction recognizing the NCP's direct costs during extended parenting time.
Takeaway: Add-ons are split proportionally, and 121 or more overnights per year triggers a shared parenting reduction.
